Does this tradition truly lead us to the gathering place? The prophets have always called us to be critical—not critical of men, but critical of the assumptions that have hardened into habit.

Think of Samuel the Lamanite, who stood on the wall and did not speak of what was convenient, but of what was covenant. Consider Ammon, who walked to the Waters of Sebus, where the comfortable paths of the enemy ended, and the path of pure covenant was revealed. The journey of faith is rarely paved with what is easy; it is paved with the stones that were cut without hands, by divine power.
