Beyond the Bunny Ears: Finding the True Meaning of Easter

Brothers and sisters, sometimes I look around the community, and I see so much passion for the gospel—the hunger to share the plan of salvation. But sometimes, even the most sacred observances get watered down, reduced to mere tradition or seasonal fun. It makes me think about how easily the profound can be overshadowed by the superficial.

I was recently watching a video discussing the meaning of Easter, and it really struck a chord with me. It forced me to pause and ask: What is the *real* meaning? Is it just a time for candy and springtime renewal?

If we only take the secular view—the eggs, the bunnies, the feasting—we are looking at a shadow. A beautiful, colorful shadow, perhaps, but a shadow nonetheless. The truth, the deep, abiding truth that anchors our faith, is so much richer and more powerful.

The core of it, as the video beautifully illuminated, is the Resurrection. It’s not just a historical event; it’s the ultimate declaration of victory. Death, our greatest enemy, was conquered. Sin was paid for. And the promise of eternal life was sealed.

The Power That Changes Everything

When we study the scriptures, especially as we prepare for missionary discussions or study the Atonement, we see that Easter points us directly to the power of God. It means that the Son of God paid the price, and then He rose again. That resurrection power isn't just confined to a specific day 2,000 years ago; it’s available to us now!

Think about what that means for us as disciples. It means that the power that raised Him from the tomb is the same power that works in us who believe. It’s the power to overcome our own struggles, the power to forgive, and the power to keep going when the field gets tough.

Easter means that the promises of God come true in Christ. It means that the poor in spirit will possess the Kingdom of Heaven, and the meek will inherit the earth.

This understanding—that Christ is the Lord of new beginnings—should permeate everything we do, whether we are in the MTC, serving in a stake center, or simply having a conversation with an investigator in our own living rooms. It’s about proclaiming that the gospel is to be heralded far and wide.

Making the Meaning Tangible

How do we keep this profound truth alive in our daily lives? We keep it alive by *living* it. We keep it alive by striving to be Christlike. We keep it alive by sharing it.
