Building Our Foundation: What We Truly Believe Matters

When life gets shaky, what bedrock truths can we stand on? We're looking at foundational declarations to strengthen our faith.

Brothers and sisters, if I could ask you one thing today, it would be this: When life gets hard—when the anxieties creep in, when the curveballs fly, when the world feels like it’s spinning off its axis—what do you stand on? What is the bedrock truth that doesn't shift when everything else shakes?

It’s easy to get caught up in the immediate struggles—the bills, the job, the relational knots. And those things are real. But what we believe about God, friends, that belief system, it doesn't just shape our thoughts; it shapes our *identity*. It shapes how we treat our neighbors, how we handle a disagreement, and ultimately, what we believe about eternity.

This concept—that our beliefs form the framework of our lives—is something we need to keep central to our hearts, especially as we continue to be Internet missionaries in this digital age. We are called to be disciples everywhere, all the time, and that requires a foundation that can withstand anything.

The Creed: More Than Just Ancient Words

We recently saw a message touch on this, focusing on the Apostles' Creed. Now, I know what some of you might be thinking: *“Another declaration? Another set of words to memorize? I’m dealing with modern problems!”* I get it. It can feel academic, like something dusty from a history book.

But hear me out. The Apostle's Creed isn't just a nice piece of historical trivia. It’s a declaration that has been shouted in cathedrals, whispered in moments of extreme peril, and it has stood the test of time for two millennia. It’s a statement of *who* God is, and *who* we are in relation to Him.

For us as Latter-day Saints, this isn't about adopting a foreign doctrine; it's about reinforcing the core, unshakable truths that guide our journey toward eternal life. It’s about building a spiritual foundation that isn't based on the shifting sands of cultural opinion or the latest TikTok trend. It's built on the Rock—the truth of the restored gospel.

Building Our Foundation Together

My goal, and I hope it can be yours, is to move beyond just *knowing* the words of our foundational beliefs to *believing* them deeply. Not as a ritual we perform, but as a personal, heartfelt declaration of faith in the God who created us. This is the kind of deep conviction that empowers us to be disciples wherever we are.

Think about it through the lens of the Spirit. The Spirit doesn't whisper vague suggestions; it testifies of truth. And what are the greatest truths we can anchor ourselves to? The covenants, the Atonement, the divine nature of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

If you are feeling called to deepen your personal understanding of these foundational truths, I highly recommend diving into the scriptures. Have you considered joining a Book Club or a Bible Study Group in HolyPlaces? These are wonderful, low-pressure ways to explore these concepts with others who are also striving to be more Christlike.

If you want to test your understanding of these foundational concepts in a different way, I encourage you to utilize Davee. He’s excellent at stepping into the role of the AI Investigator, walking you through the tough, clarifying questions that might come up when you are trying to articulate your own beliefs. It’s a safe place to wrestle with the big questions!

✨ Mission Prep Skill Spotlight: Articulating Belief

A great skill for any missionary preparation stage is learning to articulate *why* a belief matters. Don't just state the truth; explain the *impact* of that truth. Instead of saying, "We believe in the Book of Mormon," try, "Because we believe in the Book of Mormon, we know that the Atonement of Jesus Christ is accessible to us today, which gives us hope." See the difference? The second one shows the *power* of the belief.

As we continue to be rogue disciples in our daily lives, let's commit to strengthening this foundation. Let's build on what is true, always.
