Choosing Victory: Living Out the Name of Jesus

Don't let sin, fear, or discouragement define your divine inheritance. Learn to walk in the power of Victory through Christ.

Brothers and sisters, have you ever felt trapped? Trapped in a cycle of worry, disappointment, or just plain *lack*? It feels like you’re living in a room with the curtains drawn tight, and no matter how hard you push, you can’t see the sunlight.

It’s easy, especially when we’re out in the field or even when we’re just studying at home, to get bogged down by the things that feel overwhelming—the personal struggles, the challenges in the ward, or the sheer weight of the world’s problems. We can start to believe that the struggle *is* our identity. That the anxiety *is* who we are.

But the Spirit whispers a truth so liberating, so powerful, that it can shake the foundations of our old ways of thinking. The greatest enemy of our divine potential isn't always the obvious foe; sometimes, it’s the quiet, persistent whisper of sin, or the heavy blanket of discouragement that tells us we are failures.

The Power of Redefining Your Identity

What I was reflecting on recently, after listening to a powerful talk about this very subject, is that our identity—who we *are* in the covenant path—is not defined by our failures. It is not defined by our current circumstances. It is defined by the name we claim and the Savior we follow.

When we talk about Jesus, or Yeshua, the Hebrew root word speaks volumes. It means salvation, yes, but it also speaks of *victory*. It is the name by which we are saved, and therefore, it is the name by which we are defined. If we are of Yeshua, we are not of defeat. We cannot be of defeat and of Him at the same time.

This isn't just feel-good theology for a Sunday afternoon. This is the core of missionary preparation. When we are learning to testify, when we are in those intense missionary discussions, we must be crystal clear on this: Our inheritance is Victory. Our calling is to live accordingly.

Choosing Victory: A Daily Practice

The challenge, my friends, is that the world—and sometimes our own natural tendencies—will work against that divine inheritance. They will point to our anxieties, our compromises, our moments of gloom, and try to convince us that *that* is who we are. They will try to make us believe that fear is a natural state, or that inconsistency is our lot.

But the gospel gives us the antidote: A conscious, daily choice. We have to get into the *identity* of who God has given us to be. We have to choose thoughts of Victory, and actively put away thoughts of defeat.

Think about it through the lens of the restored gospel. We are constantly being called to be Internet missionaries, disciples in our homes, and disciples in our communities. This requires more than just knowledge; it requires a *stance* of victory. It requires us to remember that the power of the Resurrection—the ultimate victory over death—is what empowers our efforts in the field.

A Quick Mission Prep Skill: Name Association

Here’s a little skill I want to pass along today for our next missionary discussions or even just a quiet moment of scripture study. When you feel yourself slipping into a thought pattern of 'lack' or 'failure,' immediately pause and mentally repeat: 'I am of Yeshua. I am of Victory.' Don't just think it; *feel* the weight of that truth. Let it anchor you. This is claiming your divine heritage.

If you are feeling the pull to deepen your study, I highly recommend revisiting the teachings on Isaiah or reading up on the covenants in the Book of Mormon. For those who are ready to dive deeper into scripture study, remember that the HolyPlaces platform is a wonderful resource for Book Clubs and Bible Study Groups to help us anchor ourselves in the Word.

As always, keep pressing forward. Don't let the whispers of the old nature drown out the glorious declaration of who you are in the Savior. You are called to Victory!
