Don't Let the World Make You Feel Small: Remembering Who You Are in Christ

Brothers and sisters, sometimes the noise of the world—the whispers of doubt, the creeping fear of not being enough, the comparison game—can make us feel awfully small. It can make us feel like our best days are behind us, or that our calling is too big for our current capacity. It’s easy to let those whispers settle into a quiet, convincing lie.

But I want to talk to you today about something foundational, something that should be the bedrock of every single disciple’s heart: knowing *who* you are in Christ. It’s not based on your current performance, your energy levels, or what the world expects you to achieve. It’s a covenant truth.

When we get deep into missionary discussions, or when we are studying passages like those in the Book of Mormon or the Doctrine and Covenants, we are constantly reminded of our divine potential. And sometimes, we forget that potential! We start believing the lie that with age, energy, or circumstances, we must inevitably shrink.

This message, which I found so timely, really hammered home that feeling of being diminished. It’s a powerful reminder that the blessings we receive through the Atonement are not things we have to earn back every single morning. They are gifts!

Remembering Your Inheritance

The speaker pointed out that we are taught that in Christ, we are forgiven, redeemed, and made right with God. These are monumental declarations! If we truly internalize that, we shouldn't be living lives colored by fear, anxiety, or the need to please everyone around us. We should be radiating a joy that comes from knowing our standing with the Savior.

Think about it through the lens of the work. The Lord doesn't call us to be perfect; He calls us to be *Christlike*. And being Christlike means having the courage to be bold, to take risks, and to trust the Spirit even when the path looks daunting. It means refusing to let the fear of failure—or the fear of judgment—keep us from doing the missionary work the Lord has prepared for us.

This isn't just for those of us in the MTC, or those who are actively in the field. This is for the lifelong disciple, the parent, the student, the professional—anyone who feels their current circumstances are limiting their capacity to serve. We must actively resist the temptation to believe that our usefulness diminishes over time or with life’s challenges.

Be Bold in the Spirit

The counsel here is to "dream big." Don't let the limitations you perceive—whether they are physical, emotional, or circumstantial—become the limitations God sets for you. If God has prepared a calling for you, He expects you to approach it with the boldness of someone who knows they are heirs of God’s kingdom.
