But the reality of the field, dear disciples, is infinitely more beautiful, more nuanced, and sometimes, frankly, more mundane. It’s in the quiet moments, in the everyday life of the people, that the Spirit speaks most clearly.

Recently, I was reminiscing about a time spent working in Bunbury, Australia. It sounds far away, but those memories are powerful reminders that the Lord’s work is truly global, and that the principles we learn in the MTC—the diligence, the testimony, the heart—are just as vital whether you’re in Utah, South America, or down on the Australian coastline. It’s a beautiful reminder that every single member can be an Internet missionary, and every location has a sacred calling.

The Beautiful Complexity of the Field

The experience of working in Bunbury, as captured in this video, is a masterclass in cultural immersion. It’s not just about the beautiful scenery or the wildlife; it’s about the community. When you live in a small area, like the wards described, you learn how deeply intertwined the lives of the members are. If I could give one mission-prep skill to the next wave, it would be this: Learn to see the Gospel not as a separate, perfect concept, but as the connective thread running through the messy, wonderful reality of daily life. When you’re planning your missionary discussions, don't just plan for the doctrinal questions; plan for the *culture* of the people you are meeting. What do they value? What do they gather around? Use those points of connection!
