Following the Footprints: Understanding the Plan of Salvation

Brothers and sisters, sometimes when we’re deep in our studies, or maybe right before a big missionary discussion, the sheer scope of the plan can feel overwhelming. It’s like trying to hold the entire history of the covenant path in your hands. We look at the scriptures, we study the temple covenants, and we feel the weight of what the Savior accomplished. It’s monumental.

But as returned missionaries, and as disciples learning to live this gospel daily, we know that nothing we do—no matter how small—is separate from that central, glorious narrative. Everything points back to Him.

The Pattern of Divine Love

Watching accounts like the one we just reviewed really drives home that pattern. We see Eden, the perfect state, and then the breaking of the covenant through disobedience. The separation. It’s a powerful, sobering reminder of why the Atonement is so necessary.

What struck me most, and what I think we need to keep meditating on, is how consistently God’s love shines through the failure. From the early warnings to Abraham’s willingness to trust, to the prophets foretelling the Messiah—it’s always preparation for the ultimate sacrifice. The Savior didn't just appear; He was foretold, He was prepared for, and He lived the perfect life so that He could offer the perfect sacrifice.

The Power of Substitution

When the narrative moves toward the crucifixion, it’s a stark lesson in substitutionary atonement. The prophets didn't just predict a king; they predicted a sacrifice. That lamb replacing the son—that’s the core truth we carry in our hearts. He paid the price so that we could be restored to that original, perfect communion with the Father.

This isn't just ancient history; it's the operating manual for our lives as Latter-day Saints. It means that when we stumble—when we mess up, when we fail to be Christlike—we don't have to face the separation alone. The covenant path is always open because of Him.

Being an Internet Missionary Today

How does this translate to us, right here, right now, in our homes and our online lives? It means understanding that every interaction is an opportunity to point people back to that ultimate sacrifice. We are all internet missionaries. We don't need to be standing on a street corner; we just need to be willing to share the story of Jesus Christ.
