From Genesis to Revelation: Following the Thread of the Lion of Judah

You read a passage in the Book of Mormon, you study the Book of Abraham, you feel the Spirit wash over you during a missionary discussion, and then you hit Revelation. It can feel overwhelming, right?

But what if the grand narrative of the Plan of Salvation, the story of the Atonement, is woven through every single thread, connecting the beginning to the end? Recently, I was digging into the Book of Revelation, specifically the imagery of the Lion of Judah. It’s a powerful passage, and it really made me pause and think about how interconnected the covenants are.

The Lion, the Tribe, and the Promise

What struck me most was the sheer consistency of the symbolism. The Lion—power, majesty, royalty—is repeatedly linked back to the tribe of Judah. It’s not just a random biblical flourish; it’s a deep, prophetic thread running through history.

When we look at Genesis 49, Jacob’s blessing to his sons, Judah is compared to a lion, and the promise of kingship is laid out. This isn't just about a king; it’s about a covenant line that will not fail. The scepter will not depart from Judah until Shiloh comes.

This concept—a royal line established long ago, pointing toward a Savior—is exactly what we are called to understand and testify of in our own lives. It reminds us that the work is eternal, and the promises of our Heavenly Father are always kept. We are disciples of a King who was promised!

Applying the Revelation to Our Calling

As we disciples, whether we are in the MTC, serving in a stake center, or simply running errands with our families, we are called to be ambassadors of this glorious King. We are called to be Christlike.

If the Lion of Judah represents the ultimate, conquering King, what does that mean for us, the modern-day disciple? It means that the power we rely on isn't our own—it's the Spirit, the power of the Gospel, and the covenant power of the priesthood. It means that when we share our testimonies, we are sharing the story of the ultimate Redeemer.

It’s a powerful reminder that our calling—to be an Internet missionary, to teach the Plan of Salvation, to help someone understand the Book of Mormon—is part of this grand, unfolding narrative. We are participating in the work that has been promised since the days of Jacob.
