From Sheaves to the Savior: Seeing the Pattern in Joseph's Story

Sometimes, the Lord speaks to us in the most unexpected places—in a sermon, a passage of scripture, or even a story from ancient times. It can feel like a whisper, a nudge toward a truth that needs to settle deep in our hearts. As we continue our journey of discipleship, we are always looking for the threads that connect the dots, the patterns that point us back to the Savior.

This week, watching Jonathan Cahn explore the story of Joseph, I was struck by how deeply woven the foreshadowing of the Messiah is into the very narrative. It’s a powerful reminder that the gospel isn't just a collection of doctrines; it’s a grand, unfolding drama orchestrated by the Father.

It hit me while I was studying this material—the parallels are staggering. Joseph, the beloved son, rejected by his brothers; the Messiah, rejected by his own people. Joseph, taken for dead; the Savior, descending into death. It’s a pattern that echoes through millennia.

The Master of Dreams

Cahn highlights the title used in the Hebrew text: *Baal Khalamote*, the Lord of Dreams, or the Master of Dreams. It makes you think about dreams, doesn't it? We all have them. Sometimes we wake up, and we wonder, "What did that mean?"

As returned missionaries, we learn quickly that while most dreams are just the random workings of our minds, the Spirit *can* speak through them. And when we consider the scope of what the Lord can reveal—the way He guided Joseph's story to point toward Christ—it humbles us right down to our core.

Emulating the Pattern: Being Christlike

What does this mean for us right here, in our own lives as Latter-day Saints? It means that the pattern of Christ—the ultimate pattern—is available to us to emulate. Joseph was separated from his family, just as the Savior was separated from His Father's immediate presence for so long. But Joseph, through his suffering, was elevated to master and provider. The Savior, through His suffering, was exalted.

This calls us to look inward. Where are we being rejected? Where are we being tested? Are we willing to walk through the "descent" required to follow the Savior's example? It’s not about the dramatic downfall; it's about the faithfulness *through* the descent. It’s about keeping the covenant even when the world—or even our immediate circle—seems to misunderstand us.

A Little Prep for Our Own Fields
