Inscribed on the Palms: Remembering Who Never Forgets Us

There are seasons, brothers and sisters, when the weight of the world feels so heavy, and the quiet moments of the day can bring a deep, gnawing ache—the feeling of being overlooked. It’s a feeling that can creep into the quietest moments, whispering that maybe, just maybe, the efforts we put into the work aren't visible enough, or that the sacrifices we make aren't quite registering with the Master.

If you’ve been out in the field, or if you’re studying in your home study, you know that the Lord’s love is not conditional on our performance. It’s deeper, more eternal, and far more reliable than any earthly attachment. Sometimes, we need a reminder—a divine assurance—that no matter the storm, the covenant keeps us safe.

I was recently studying some passages about divine constancy, and it brought my heart right back to Isaiah 49. If you haven't revisited this passage, I highly recommend it. It’s a powerful balm for the soul.

What struck me most, as I was watching that devotional, was the progression of the imagery. The speaker points out that the Lord uses three distinct, powerful metaphors to assure His people that they will never be forgotten. It starts with the mother who cannot forget her nursing child—a universal truth we all understand.

The Three Images of Divine Love

But the Lord doesn't stop at the obvious. He takes us deeper, leading us through three profound assurances:

1. The Mother's Compassion: A reminder of the deepest, most instinctual love.
2. Inscribed on the Palms: This image, so beautiful and so visceral, connects directly to the Savior. When we look at those nail-scarred hands, we see the ultimate covenant—we are inscribed there. We are so precious to Him that He marked us forever.
3. The Walls Continually Before Me: This speaks to our security, our strength, and the Lord’s constant watchfulness over Zion. He is mindful of our condition, even when we feel shaky or unsure of the path ahead.

My dear disciples, this isn't just ancient history for the people of Judah facing exile. This is for us, the Latter-day Saints, today. It is for you, whether you are preparing for your own mission, serving as a returned missionary, or simply trying to keep the cogs of your gospel life turning on a busy week.

Being an Internet Missionary in the Everyday

This passage is a beautiful reminder that the work never stops, and our discipleship isn't confined to the mission field or the temple. We are called to be internet missionaries everywhere. When you feel that pang of doubt—that whisper that maybe you aren't doing enough—I want you to meditate on that image of the palms. You are inscribed.

This week, I encourage you to take a moment of quiet reflection. Don't just read the scripture; *feel* the weight of that promise. How can you carry that assurance—that you are never forgotten—into your interactions this week? Perhaps it means pausing before a difficult conversation to remember that Christ sees you, and He has marked you.
