Keeping Our Focus: What the Scriptures *Really* Say About Eternal Life

Brothers and sisters, as we gather together, whether in a dedicated HolyPlaces study, in a small group setting, or even right here in our digital gathering space, the Spirit often leads us to the deepest questions of our faith. Sometimes, those questions can feel vast—questions about what happens after we leave this mortal shell, what the nature of the soul is, and what ‘rebirth’ truly means.

Recently, I came across some discussions online regarding the concept of reincarnation. Now, I’m not saying we shouldn't explore challenging topics; in fact, that’s what the AI Investigator role is for—to help us wrestle with the hard questions together! But after taking a deep dive into the source material, I felt the Spirit prompted me to share some thoughts with you all, especially as we continue our missionary preparation.

It’s easy, when we’re so eager to understand the fullness of the plan, to get caught up in philosophical rabbit holes. The concept of reincarnation—the idea that a soul returns to a new body, perhaps even as a different kind of animal—is a concept that has captivated minds for millennia. It sounds so comforting, doesn't it? The thought that if we stumble now, we might get another chance later.

But as returned missionaries, as disciples who have been taught to follow the pattern of the gospel, we know that our foundation must be built on revealed truth. When we look closely at the Savior’s teachings, and indeed, the whole counsel of the scriptures, the pattern is remarkably clear. We die once, and then we face judgment.

This isn't meant to discourage us; far from it! If anything, it should focus our efforts. If the gospel plan is linear—progressing through preparation, covenant-making, and eternal life—then our focus as rogue disciples must be laser-sharp on the covenants we make *now*. We are called to be internet missionaries today, disciples anywhere, all the time.
