Keeping Our Hearts Focused on the Now: Understanding the Grand Narrative of the End Times

Brothers and sisters, sometimes the questions we encounter—the big, sweeping questions about the end times—can feel like they’re pulling us out of the immediate, beautiful work right in front of us. We read about timelines, prophecies, and grand sequences of events, and it’s easy to get caught up in the 'what happens next' rather than the 'what is happening now.' It’s a natural human tendency, isn't it?

When I was first getting my bearings in the field, I remember feeling that pressure to know *everything*. I wanted to have the perfect answer for every single investigator question, every doctrinal nuance, before I was even assigned to my first stake center. I felt like I needed a whole map of eternity just to feel prepared to share the gospel.

What I’ve learned, both in the MTC and over years of service, is that while the scriptures are rich with prophecy, the core of our mission—the work—is always anchored in the present moment: personal revelation, sincere testimony, and living the gospel daily. The grand narrative is incredible to study, but the *power* is in the discipleship we practice today.

The Focus: Christ, Today

The material we reviewed recently touches on a detailed, pre-tribulational view of eschatology—the rapture, the rise of the Antichrist, the Tribulation, and the final judgment. It’s a lot to process! It shows us the scope of God's plan and the ultimate victory of the restored gospel. It’s a testament to the Savior’s power.

But if you look closely at the sequence—from the rapture to the Millennium to the New Jerusalem—what is the constant thread? It is always, ultimately, the return and reign of Jesus Christ. He is the center point, the pivot around which every prophecy turns. He is the one who saves, who judges, and who establishes the eternal kingdom.

A Skill for the Internet Missionary: Focusing on the 'How'

This brings me to a small piece of mission prep I want to pass along to you all, my fellow rogue disciples. When we discuss big, complex topics like this—and we *should* discuss them!—I want us to practice something I call the "Anchor Question."

If an investigator asks, "What happens after the Tribulation?" instead of launching into a detailed timeline, I try to gently pivot back to the anchor: "That is a profound question that scripture speaks about in great detail. But before we get lost in the timeline, what part of the gospel—the Atonement, the plan of salvation—do you feel the most conviction about right now? Because that conviction, that belief in Christ’s sacrifice, is what sustains us through every single era."

It keeps the conversation Christ-centered and keeps the focus on *personal* discipleship, which is the most powerful tool we have as Internet missionaries.
