Navigating the Scrolls: Understanding the Seals and the Work Ahead
We dove into some weighty topics regarding the Apocalyptic literature, focusing on the timing of the seals, the wrath of God, and our role as disciples.
Brothers and sisters, friends, fellow disciples—shalom.
Sometimes, as we gather together in our study groups, or even when we’re just wrestling with scriptures in the quiet of our own homes, we come across passages that feel… monumental. They feel like they carry the weight of ages, the weight of what’s to come. When we look at texts like Revelation, it can feel like we’re standing at the edge of a vast, powerful ocean, and the currents are strong.
It’s natural to feel overwhelmed. We want clarity. We want to know where we stand, and what the Lord requires of us in the meantime. This week, I wanted to share some thoughts after reviewing a deep dive into the Seven Seals of Revelation, which really got us thinking about timing, doctrine, and what it means to be an active disciple *right now*.
It’s a powerful reminder that the gospel isn't just for the end times; it’s for the *now*. It’s for us, the Rogue Disciples, today. It’s for every single one of us who knows that every member can be an Internet missionary, every member can be a disciple anywhere, all the time.
The Weight of the Questions
The discussion highlighted three major questions people often have about the seals: 1) Will the seals open before the wrath of God? 2) Will believers see some or all of the seals opened before the rapture? And 3) Will the temple be built before the seals are opened?
These aren't small questions; they touch on our understanding of divine timing and the scope of the Atonement. What I found most encouraging was the emphasis that while the *announcement* of the wrath of the Lamb happens through the seals, the actual, full outpouring of that wrath is delayed until *after* the rapture. This is a huge comfort and a vital doctrinal point to hold onto!
It reaffirmed that the Church—the covenant people—will be present and active during the opening of the first six seals. We are here, we are learning, and we are ministering.
A Bite of Mission Prep & Study
As we process these weighty discussions, remember that the best way to understand the "end times" is to focus on the *eternal*—the eternal gospel of Jesus Christ. If you’re feeling the pull toward deeper study, I highly recommend checking out the Iron Rod authors available in LivingBook. There are some excellent readings on understanding prophecy through the lens of Christ's Atonement. If you want to really dig into the scripture side of things, our Book Club in HolyPlaces is always a wonderful place to anchor yourself in solid doctrine!
For those of you who are feeling the call to the field, or who are preparing for your own mission, remember to keep those doctrinal questions ready. Don't let them intimidate you; let them guide your preparation. If you want to walk through a tough doctrinal question with a mentor-voice perspective, don't forget to utilize Davee. He’s always ready to run through the hard questions an investigator might ask!
We are disciples today. We are disciples in the temple, in the living room, and online. Let's keep building Zion, one scripture study, one heartfelt conversation, and one righteous action at a time. Keep the faith, brothers and sisters.
