No Coincidences: Seeing the Divine Design in Our Lives

Have you ever felt like your life is a series of near-misses, or that certain people just *had* to cross your path at the exact moment you needed them? It’s easy, when we’re deep in the thick of the work, to attribute those perfect moments to sheer luck. We might whisper to our companions, “Wow, what a coincidence!”

But as we gather here in the Rogue Disciples community, we know better. We know the language of the Spirit whispers something deeper. We are called to see beyond the random occurrence and recognize the hand of the Lord at work.

I recently spent some time reflecting on a talk by C. Shane Reese, and it really struck a chord regarding how deeply intertwined our lives truly are. He spoke about how our relationships aren't random chance; they are intricately woven threads in a divine tapestry.

The Divine Orchestration

When we talk about coincidence, we are using a word that sounds perfectly acceptable to mortal understanding, but it simply doesn't measure up to the scope of an omniscient God. The Lord doesn't work by coincidence; He works by divine design. Think about it: the people you meet in your mission discussions, the companion who arrives right before your transfer, the friend who shares a scripture insight with you in LivingBook—these aren't accidents.

These interactions are evidence of His profound, infinite, and eternal love for us. He has invested in the details of our mortal lives. This doesn't diminish our sacred gift of agency; far from it! God honors our freedom to choose while simultaneously guiding us toward opportunities where we can best serve, where we can love, and where we can feel the gentle prompting of the Spirit.

A Little Mission Prep Thought: Seeing the Pattern

As we all strive to be Internet missionaries, we need to train our eyes to see this divine design in our daily lives. When you are studying for a missionary discussion, or even just reading the scriptures, pause. Instead of just absorbing the doctrine, ask yourself: *Who* is teaching this to me right now? *Why* did the Spirit prompt me to read this specific passage today? Recognizing the pattern—the 'why' behind the 'what'—is a powerful way to build faith.

It’s a constant reminder that every member can be a disciple anywhere, all the time. Our discipleship isn't confined to the mission field; it’s woven into the fabric of our everyday lives.

Building on Connections

This principle applies to everything—from the connections made in the MTC, to the bonds formed with our companions, to the enduring friendships that last a lifetime. These connections are the channels through which the Lord continues to refine us and draw us closer to Him. We are meant to build on these threads.
