Opening the Door: Finding the Abundant Life Through Christ
Sometimes we get caught up in the mechanics of the work, but remember the source: the Atonement of Jesus Christ is the gateway to eternal life.
Brothers and sisters, as we gear up for more missionary discussions, or perhaps as we’re just studying the scriptures in our local Book Club, it’s easy to get so focused on the *how*—the perfect opening question, the best testimony structure, the latest insights from the Iron Rod—that we sometimes lose sight of the *Who*. Who is the ultimate answer to everything we are trying to share?
It’s easy to treat sharing the gospel like a checklist: Point out sin, cite a scripture, offer a plan. And while those things are vital tools, they are tools pointing toward the only source of life. The source, friends, is the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
When I was first getting my bearings in the field, I remember feeling immense pressure to be perfect in my testimony. I thought if I just recited the right verses or sounded knowledgeable enough, people would be convinced. But I was missing the core message. I was focused on the *doctrine*, not the *Person*.
The scriptures are clear: we are all separated from God by sin. We try to bridge that gap with philosophy, with sheer willpower, with good works—and we fall short every time. That gulf is too wide for our own efforts. That’s where the glorious, perfect provision of our Savior steps in.
He didn't just *teach* about bridging the gap; He *was* the bridge. His life, His death, and His resurrection are the ultimate testimony. He paid the penalty for our sin so that we could be restored to that original, glorious fellowship with the Father.
This isn't just intellectual assent, either. As we’ve talked about in our social scripture study sessions, understanding the doctrine is one thing; receiving the gift is another. Receiving Christ is an act of the will, a turning of the heart. It’s saying, “Lord, I need You.”
This is the heart of our message, the essence we carry into every missionary discussion, whether it’s in a formal setting or just over coffee with an investigator. It’s about inviting Him to take the throne of our lives.
I encourage you this week to spend some quiet time meditating on this truth. If you feel the prompting, perhaps you could use this video as a guide for your own personal study. It really drives home the difference between knowing *about* Christ and *receiving* Him.
Remember, the invitation is always the same: Come unto Christ. He stands at the door, knocking. And when we open that door, He comes in to forgive, to restore, and to make us the kind of disciples He wants us to be. That is the Abundant Life!
For those of you who are feeling the call to deepen your own personal relationship with Him, I highly recommend diving into the teachings on this topic. If you’re looking for a structured way to ponder this, check out the resources available in LivingBook, or perhaps join a local Bible Study Group in HolyPlaces to discuss the covenants we make with Him.
Keep striving to be Christlike in all things, my friends. The work is eternal, and the Savior is always waiting.
