Peering into the Deep: Understanding the Nephilim and Divine Boundaries

Brothers and sisters, as we continue our journey in discipleship, we know that the scriptures are a boundless ocean. Sometimes, when we study, we stumble upon passages—like the account in Genesis 6—that make us pause, scratch our heads, and whisper, “Wait, what does this *really* mean?”

It’s natural to feel that weight of mystery. We are called to be Internet missionaries, to bring the light of the restored gospel to every corner, and that means we must be willing to wrestle with the big questions. We must be prepared to guide an investigator through the profound, sometimes uncomfortable, questions they might bring to a missionary discussion.

Recently, I’ve been spending time looking into the Nephilim. It’s a topic that seems to pop up everywhere—in modern documentaries, in online discussions, and in deep scriptural dives. It forces us to confront ideas about boundaries, lineage, and the divine separation between different realms of being.

When we approach these deep texts, we have to remember that our role isn't to provide *the* definitive, final answer on every single historical mystery. Our role, as disciples, is to point our investigators back to the central, unifying truth: the pattern of divine law, the pattern of agency, and the pattern of Christ’s Atonement.

1. Acknowledge the Mystery: When an investigator asks a question you genuinely don't know the answer to, do not guess.
2. Pivot to Principle: Instead, say something like, “That is a profound question that has challenged scholars for centuries. What I *can* share with you today is the principle that God’s law is always good, and that Christ is the ultimate revealer of that law.”
3. Redirect to Scripture: Follow up by asking, “What scriptures do *you* find most comforting when you feel confused or overwhelmed?”

This honors the question while keeping the focus on the eternal principles of the gospel. It’s how we teach discipleship, not just facts.
