Peering into the Infinite: Understanding God's Attributes

We look at the vastness of creation—the sheer complexity, the breathtaking beauty, the perfect order—and we think, "How can we possibly understand the One who designed all of this?" It feels like trying to cup the ocean in your hands.

It’s a question that has challenged disciples for centuries: What *are* the attributes of God? What are His perfections? Is He all-powerful, or is He all-knowing? When we first tackle this, it can feel overwhelming. It’s a god-sized question, right?

But here’s what I’ve learned, and what I hope you’ll take with you as you continue your own journey in the field: We don't need to *fully* answer it, because no mortal can. But we *can* learn what He has chosen to reveal about Himself through His Word. That revelation is our guide, our anchor, and our greatest source of comfort.

He is omniscient, knowing everything, yet His justice is administered fairly because of His perfect righteousness. And then there is the contrast: His infinite Holiness, which keeps us at a distance, balanced perfectly by His infinite Grace—His kindness, mercy, and love.

This is the beautiful paradox of the restored gospel. We are saved not by our perfect understanding of Him, but by His perfect, undeserved grace. It’s what allows us to be internet missionaries today, even when we feel miles away from the nearest gathering.

A Little Prep Skill for Your Next Discussion

As you prepare for your next missionary discussions, don't just memorize definitions. Instead, focus on *why* these attributes matter to the investigator. If they ask, "Is God just?" Don't just list attributes; explain that His justice *requires* a Savior because of His perfect righteousness. If they ask, "Is God everywhere?" Explain that while He is omnipresent, His *personal* relationship with us is revealed through the Spirit and through covenants.
