I was recently listening to a discussion about the papacy, and while the topic itself can be complex and frankly, a little divisive, what really struck me was the way the speaker traced the lineage of divine authority. It wasn't just a historical recitation; it was a masterclass in seeing the pattern of God’s covenant keeping across millennia.

It started with the twelve sons of Jacob, establishing the tribes. It moved to David, the anointed king who gathered them all. Then, the inevitable fracturing, the loss of kingdoms, and the long stretch of time where the covenant seemed to fade into dusty history. It’s easy, isn't it, to feel like we’re in a period of wandering, waiting for the next great sign?

The pattern isn't just about political structures; it’s about the continuous establishment and preservation of God's covenant people.
