Shaking the Dust Off Our Feet: Being Ready When the World Doesn't Welcome the Gospel

Brothers and sisters, sometimes the noise out there—the cultural chatter, the political shouting, the sheer volume of things people *think* they know—can make us feel like we’re shouting into a hurricane. It’s exhausting, isn't it? You feel like you’re doing the Lord’s work, you’re sharing the gospel with all the fervor we learned in MTC, and yet the response is often... deafeningly silent, or worse, hostile.

It reminds me of something I was pondering the other day, watching a clip with Phil Robertson. The theme that kept circling back to me, echoing through the commentary, was this idea of being prepared for rejection. He spoke about being sent out, and when people won't listen, you have to be ready to shake the dust off your feet.

The Calling to Be Unashamed

It’s a powerful reminder, isn't it? We are called to be disciples everywhere—every member can be an internet missionary, every member can be a disciple anywhere, all the time. But what does that look like when the "field" feels less like a mission field and more like a gauntlet?

The core message, the one that cuts through all the noise, is always the same: Jesus Christ. When we hear talk about people dismissing the message, calling it 'hate speech,' or simply choosing to tune us out, it’s easy to feel discouraged. We might start to wonder, "Am I doing it right? Am I being too blunt? Should I just wait until things are easier?"

But the Spirit whispers something different. It whispers that the message itself—the Atonement, the plan of salvation—is so vital, so necessary for the human race, that we cannot afford to let fear dictate our efforts. We are taught to be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. That balance—that careful, loving persistence—is what defines faithful discipleship.

Revisiting the Foundation

This whole conversation, this constant call to "do what's right," forces us to go back to the fundamentals. It makes you want to dive deep into the scriptures. The Lord doesn't promise that the world will welcome our words; He promises that *He* will deliver us. Our job is to keep pointing people back to Him. We are conduits, not the source. And that realization should bring us a deep, quiet peace, even when the surrounding noise is chaotic.

This is the work. It’s not always easy, and it certainly won't always be comfortable. But our covenant path requires us to be ready to shake the dust off our feet and keep moving forward, trusting in the Savior.
