Recently, I was listening to some powerful talk, and it really struck a chord with me—a reminder that no matter what the current cultural climate is, no matter how loud the noise or how restrictive the mandates, the core commandment remains: give thanks to the Lord.

It’s easy to get caught up in the immediate crisis—the next election, the latest social upheaval, the health scares. We look at the news cycle, and it feels like everything is contingent on the *current* situation. But the gospel, my friends, is built on eternal covenants, not temporary conditions.

The Unshakeable Foundation of Praise

What I took away from that discussion was a profound look at scripture—specifically, how the Psalms speak of giving thanks regardless of the surrounding circumstances. The message was clear: the ability to praise isn't conditional. It doesn't require a specific political outcome or the absence of a global crisis.

Think about it: the scriptures teach us to praise in the great assembly, among throngs of people. Where is the scripture that says, "You may only praise if you are wearing a mask," or, "You may only sing if the current political winds blow favorably"? There isn't one. The declaration of faith is inherent to who we are as Latter-day Saints.

This rings so true when we think about the stakes of the gospel. Some voices try to convince us that we must first discard the divine—that we must get rid of God—before any secular system can function. But we know better. We know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only source of true freedom.

A Moment for Reflection: The Spirit's Guidance

Remember the beautiful promise in Psalm 30:12—"You turn my mourning into dancing; you remove my sackcloth and clothe me with joy." That transformation is always available, always waiting for us to anchor ourselves to the Rock.
