There are moments in the work—moments in the field, moments in a missionary discussion, even moments right here in our quiet study time—when the feeling of divine joy washes over you. It’s a resonance, a sweet echo that reminds you of the covenants you’ve made and the promises awaiting us.

I was thinking recently about the feeling captured in this music. It’s not just a pretty sound; it feels *purposeful*. It sounds like the kind of joy that comes from knowing the gospel truth, the kind of joy that makes you want to sing it out loud, even when you’re talking to an investigator who has never heard the words before.

Carrying the Song: From Choir Practice to the Field

When I was first coming home from my mission, I remember feeling like I was carrying a song in my heart that I couldn't quite articulate. It was the joy of knowing, the joy of having experienced the Spirit so deeply. The challenge, I learned quickly, was translating that internal, sublime feeling into tangible, understandable testimony for someone who was skeptical or just… unaware.

That’s where the preparation comes in. It’s not enough to just *feel* the joy; we have to learn the language of the Restoration. We have to learn how to guide someone through the questions—the hard, thoughtful questions—and answer them with the clarity and compassion taught by our leaders and refined through our studies.

A Bite-Sized Mission-Prep Skill: Listening for the Echo

If you’re feeling that swell of spiritual music today, I want to give you a small skill to practice this week. Instead of immediately offering a doctrinal answer when someone shares a struggle or a question, I want you to practice *listening for the echo*. When they finish speaking, pause. Don't jump in with your prepared answer. Instead, reflect back what you heard, using phrases like, “If I’m understanding correctly, what you’re saying is…” This validates their experience and invites the Spirit to guide the conversation, much like an echo bouncing off the mountains.

This week, let’s treat every conversation—whether it’s a quick chat with a neighbor, a study session in HolyPlaces, or even a deep dive with Davee—as a chance to let that divine music guide our listening.

Gathering the Choir: Our Collective Voice

We are all part of this choir. Some of us are newly returned missionaries, still finding our footing after the intensity of the mission. Some of us are lifelong disciples, having been in the game for decades. Some of us are just starting our journey, feeling the pull of the Spirit and wondering where to begin. But we are all singing the same song: the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Remember that every member can be an Internet missionary, every member can be a disciple anywhere, all the time. Don't wait for the next assignment or the next training session to feel like you are doing the work. The work is everywhere.

“And I know that in the name of Jesus Christ, the Father, and the Holy Ghost, the power of God shall be with you.”
