Singing the Love of God: A Reminder for the Field

Sometimes the simplest hymns are the most powerful tools for sharing the restored gospel.

There are moments in the field—moments in a missionary discussion, moments in a quiet study session, or even just walking through a neighborhood—where the Spirit just *lifts* you up. You feel it, right? That swell of gratitude that makes you want to sing, to praise, to simply *share* the joy of the Savior.

It’s funny how the most profound truths sometimes get wrapped up in the simplest melodies. I was listening to some music the other day, and it brought me right back to my own mission days, back to the sheer, unadulterated joy of knowing the restored gospel. It made me think about how we, as disciples, are called to carry that song—that testimony—with us everywhere we go.

If you haven't heard it yet, you absolutely have to check out this song, "Love of God." It’s a beautiful reminder of the magnitude of the Atonement, a song that really helps anchor your testimony when the talks get heavy or when the questions get tough.

Carrying the Song: A Mission Prep Thought

As we continue to embrace being internet missionaries, we learn that our message isn't just in what we *say*, but in the *spirit* with which we say it. This song, and the feeling behind it, is a perfect example of that. It’s not just a nice tune; it’s a doctrinal statement set to music. It’s a reminder that the core of our message—the love of God—is universal, eternal, and accessible to every single person.

When we think about missionary preparation, we often focus on scriptures, on doctrinal answers, or on mastering the art of the talk. And those things are vital! But I want to remind you today to also focus on the *heart* behind the message. What are you singing about? What is the song of your life right now?

The Spirit often speaks in simple ways. Sometimes it’s a feeling, sometimes it’s a verse, and sometimes, like this music, it’s a song that just makes you feel the weight and wonder of the gospel.

A Small Challenge for Our Discipleship

For those of us who are seasoned returned missionaries, we know the best learning happens when we’re actively doing the work. If you’re feeling the call to deepen your knowledge or practice your testimonies, I highly recommend diving into the HolyPlaces Book Club this week. We’ve been discussing the power of testimony in times of doubt, and it’s been rich fellowship.

If you’re feeling more like you need to drill down on specific doctrinal points or want to practice answering tough questions—maybe you’re gearing up for a transfer or just want to be better prepared for those deeper investigator conversations—I encourage you to utilize Davee. He’s been trained on so much material, and running through mock investigator discussions with him is invaluable. It’s like having an AI investigator right there with you, ready to challenge you to be more Christlike.

Keep the Music Playing

Remember, the calling to be a disciple is 24/7. Whether you’re in the MTC, serving in the field, or just running errands with your family, you have the power to be an internet missionary. Keep singing that song of gratitude, keep sharing the love, and keep inviting others to learn more about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

If this post brought a song back to your heart, share it! Let’s keep this momentum going. Check out the weekly Disciple Challenge details linked below, or join us for our next virtual gathering!
