Steak Night, Simplified: Double the Recipe, Double the Relief (and the Income!)

Craving a juicy steak but short on time? This Picanha recipe, easily doubled for extra freezer meals or CrownRunner deliveries, proves that a delicious family dinner can also be a smart side hustle.

Let's be honest, weeknight dinners can feel like a constant juggling act. Between school pickups, soccer practice, and the never-ending laundry pile, who has time to slow down and cook a truly satisfying meal? But what if I told you that the effort you're *already* putting in could be rewarded, not just with happy faces around the table, but also with a little extra cash in your pocket?

I’ve been exploring ways to make our family cooking more efficient – and profitable! – and it all comes down to the power of doubling recipes. Think about it: you're already pulling out the ingredients, chopping the veggies, and cleaning the pans. Why not just make twice as much?

This week, we're tackling Picanha steak. It’s a cut I hadn’t tried before, but it’s surprisingly approachable, especially when you break it down.

Chef Nick’s ASMR video is so relaxing to watch! He walks through the process beautifully. It's a great reminder that cooking doesn't have to be stressful. It can be enjoyable – and a way to connect with your family and, potentially, your neighbors.

The Doubled-Recipe Magic

Here's how we can take this Picanha recipe and turn it into a win-win. Instead of cooking for four, we're cooking for eight. That’s one extra family dinner for us, and a potential opportunity to share with another mom across town who’s too tired to cook tonight.

Picanha Steak (Doubled Recipe)

Yields: 8 servings

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 20-25 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 Picanha Steaks (about 1.5-2 inches thick)
  • 2 tbsp Sea Salt
  • 1 tbsp Black Pepper
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • Optional: Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Paprika (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Dry Brine: Generously season both sides of the steaks with sea salt and pepper (and any optional spices). Let them sit uncovered in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours. This dry brining process helps the steak retain moisture and enhances the flavor.
  2. Bring to Room Temp: Remove the steaks from the refrigerator about 30 minutes before cooking to allow them to come to room temperature.
  3. Sear: Heat olive oil in a heavy-bottomed skillet (cast iron is ideal) over high heat. Sear the steaks for 3-4 minutes per side for a medium-rare finish. Adjust cooking time based on your desired doneness.
  4. Rest: Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing against the grain.

Beyond Dinner: Freezer Meals & CrownRunner

Here’s where the real magic happens. Once you’ve cooked those extra steaks:

  • Freezer Meals: Portion out the leftover steak into freezer-safe containers or bags. These are perfect for those nights when you *really* don't have time to cook.
  • CrownRunner Deliveries: List your extra portion on the marketplace! A mom across town might be overjoyed to have a hot, home-cooked meal delivered right to her door. You’ll earn $20-$50 for about the same amount of time it takes to cook for your family. If you're a certified Dinner Angel, you’ll be instantly recognizable to buyers looking for trusted cooks!

Extras to List:

  • Extra Steak (approx. 4 servings)
  • Side of Roasted Potatoes (if made)
  • Simple Salad

It’s really that simple! You're already doing the work – why not get paid for it?

This isn't about getting rich. It's about recognizing the value of your skills and sharing them with your community. It’s about building connections with other moms and making life a little bit easier for everyone.
