The Call of the Road: Finding the True North of Home

Every journey, whether on the open road or through life's transitions, involves bittersweet goodbyes and the constant pull toward what truly calls us home.

There are few feelings quite as bittersweet as saying goodbye to something familiar. Maybe it's the routine of the campsite, the comfort of a childhood bed, or the unwavering presence of a beloved pet. The emotional weight of separation, especially when the pull of a perceived 'better' place is involved, resonates deeply with every mile marker we pass on the open road.

Whether we're tackling a challenging thru-hike, navigating a massive overlanding trip across the BLM lands, or simply pulling into a new state park for a weekend, we are constantly in a state of transition. We leave the familiar comforts of 'home' behind, only to discover the unique beauty and challenge of the journey itself. Sometimes, the emotional weight of that departure is almost palpable. Watch this clip, and let the feeling wash over you:

The Constant Pull of Home

The scene we watch—the dog leaving the known comfort for the allure of the grandparents' house—is a perfect metaphor for the adventure life itself. We are drawn by the promise of the new, the scent of the unfamiliar, the promise of a temporary, easy life. But the greatest journeys, the ones that truly change us, are the ones that pull us toward the ultimate destination.

For us Rogue Adventurers, that destination—that ultimate 'home'—is the Gathering. It’s the place where all the roads, all the journeys, and all the temporary stops finally converge. It’s the culmination of the adventure we are all preparing for.

Marking the Way

When we are out full-time RVing or van-life exploring, we know the feeling of leaving the established camp. You pack up, you leave the perfect spot, and you head out into the wild unknown. To keep our community connected and to remember the blessings along the way, we carry two things in our adventuring kits. First, we use our CrockyGo painted rocks. Leaving a little stone at a trailhead or overlook isn't just a marker; it's a stone of remembrance—a whispered prayer to the next family of believers who passes through.

Second, as we stop at a local bakery like Proof Breads or a small gift shop, we use our decorated Currency Kids bills. Every dollar spent isn't just gas money; it's a tangible, traveling gospel tract, a small act of faith that moves with us, connecting us to the local community and the larger purpose of our road school journey.

Finding the Fellowship

This whole experience—the rock climbing meet-up at the Grand Tetons, the field trip to a local wheat mill, the spontaneous stop at a state park—is proof that the adventure is always better when shared. It's the convergence of the climber, the homeschool co-op, the overlander, and the believer. We are not just passing through; we are gathering.

If the theme of your current journey is separation, loss, or the call of a better place, remember that the greatest adventures are always moving us toward the place we were meant to be. Don't let the temporary comfort of the journey distract you from the eternal destination.

We are always heading home. Are you ready to join the Gathering?

Your Next Step on the Road

The journey continues! Find a local meet-up, list a field trip for your family, or claim a creator profile to share your own adventure. You can also source an Adventure Angel who can guide you to the next local gathering. Don't just dream about the journey—plan it. Let's keep the journey of faith moving!
