We focus so much on the next conversation, the next transfer, or the next goal. But what if the secret to endurance isn't just in our own grit, but in the steady, encouraging presence of those who have already run this race?

Fr. Mike Schmitz shared a beautiful parallel recently, drawing a connection between the grueling physical challenge of a triathlon and the spiritual race of our discipleship. The concept of the “cloud of witnesses” isn't just a nice sentiment; it’s a profound theological anchor for us as Latter-day Saints.

The Cloud of Witnesses: More Than Just Memories

When we read Hebrews chapter 12, the author points us to those great heroes of faith—Abraham, Moses, David. He reminds us that because we are surrounded by such a cloud of witnesses, we have a divine mandate: we must lay aside every weight and sin that clings to us, and run with perseverance.

Think about that. We aren't running this race in a vacuum. We are running in the footsteps of prophets, pioneers, and countless disciples who have faithfully kept the covenant. When you are studying the Book of Mormon, or when you are in a deep Bible Study Group in HolyPlaces, you are standing on the shoulders of giants. You are connected to a lineage of truth-seekers.

Emulating the Finish Line Mentality

It reminds the lifelong disciple that their consistent effort contributes to the collective momentum of the Church.

A Bite-Sized Skill: Visualizing the Finish Line

For this week, I want to challenge you to practice visualizing your "finish line." When you feel discouraged during your personal study time, or when you are preparing for missionary discussions, don't just focus on the immediate task. Instead, take a moment to visualize the *result* of your perseverance. Picture the feeling of helping someone find the Spirit, or the satisfaction of seeing a scripture passage finally click into place for a friend. Let the memory of that eventual success—the testimony shared, the covenant made—be the energy that carries you through the next few miles.

Remember that every single effort, whether it’s mastering a new skill in the MTC, participating in a Book Club, or simply keeping your temple covenants, is part of that glorious, witnessed race.
