The Divine Blueprint: Remembering You Are a Child of God, Wherever You Are

There are moments, right in the middle of the mundane week—maybe after a difficult work meeting, or while you're struggling to find the right words in a missionary discussion—when you stop and wonder: What is my actual relationship to the divine? What is my purpose?

It’s a deep question, one that has motivated prophets and missionaries throughout history. The core message, whether you're hearing it from a missionary in the field or reading it in a book, remains beautifully consistent: You are, first and foremost, a child of God.

When I was first preparing for my mission, I spent so much time studying the mechanics of the gospel—the ordinances, the doctrines, the perfect schedule of conversion. I was obsessed with the *how*. But it wasn't until I started focusing on the *who*—the person I was designed to be—that the true work clicked into place. The gospel isn't just a set of rules; it’s a family invitation.

The truth that we are children of God is the deepest, most foundational knowledge we can receive. It means we are eternally loved, perfectly designed, and inherently capable of returning to the source of all light. It shifts your entire perspective on what 'missionary work' means.

The Work Doesn't Require a Uniform

The greatest revelation about discipleship—the revelation that changed my life—is that the work doesn't require a uniform or a specific location. It requires a heart that remembers its divine parentage. This is the essence of being an Internet missionary.

The Source material we’re looking at—the talk about being a child of God—is a beautiful reminder of that core truth. It’s a reminder that our purpose is inherent, not assigned. We are already worthy of that love and purpose.

Being a Disciple Anywhere, All the Time

If we define discipleship as living in alignment with our divine blueprint, then the biggest lie the enemy tells is that you have to be somewhere special, or in a special state, to be worthy or useful. That is simply not true.

Think about it: Whether you are running a small business, raising a family, or studying scriptures late at night, you are engaged in the highest form of missionary work: testifying of the gospel through your actions, your kindness, and your sincere desire to be Christlike. You are testifying of the divine parent-child relationship every time you help a friend, every time you pray for a neighbor, and every time you seek to deepen your own understanding of the Spirit.

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”

That invitation is available to every single member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is a constant, flowing stream of grace.

Mission Prep Skill: The Pause

My favorite mission-prep skill, one I wish I had mastered earlier, is simply *The Pause*. When you feel overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the work, or when you feel inadequate compared to your companions, stop. Pause. And whisper to yourself: “I am a child of God. My worth is inherent.”

This simple shift in focus—from what you *lack* to who you *are*—is the most powerful missionary preparation tool available. It builds spiritual resilience.
