The Gathering, The Gospel, and Our Daily Work: Keeping the Focus Clear
As we consider the signs of the times, let's remember that the greatest work we can do is focusing on the core mission: gathering Israel through the gospel.
Brothers and sisters, sometimes the weight of the world—the headlines, the signs, the discussions about the Second Coming—can feel heavy. We naturally want to look at the grand sweep of history, to understand the timeline, and that’s natural. We are Latter-day Saints; we are taught to look to the heavens and ponder the covenants we’ve made.
It’s easy to get caught up in the "what ifs" and the "whens." We hear pronouncements, we see things shared online, and it’s natural to want to piece it all together. But as returned missionaries, and as disciples anywhere, all the time, we know that the Spirit guides us back to the fundamentals. The central theme, time and time again, is always the same: the work.
When we hear counsel about the gathering of Israel, or the final things, it’s easy to let our focus drift to the *end* of the story. But remember what the Lord has taught us through the Prophet: our assignment *now* is to be the hands and feet of the Savior in the present day. Our focus must remain laser-sharp on the three-fold mission of the Church: to proclaim the gospel, perfect the Saints, and gather scattered Israel.
This isn't just a slogan for a missionary discussion; it is the blueprint for our lives. It means that whether you are in the MTC preparing for your call, serving as a companion, or simply going about your day as a disciple in your own neighborhood, you are engaged in the most vital work possible. You are an internet missionary.
Focusing on the Present Work
The power of the gospel isn't found in predicting the next event; it’s found in applying the principles we’ve learned in the temple and in our homes. The Spirit whispers, "Be Christlike." That commandment is immediate. It requires us to be patient, to be kind, and to share the restored gospel with the earnestness of someone who knows they have found the only true path.
This is where the practical skill comes in. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the weight of eschatology, I invite you to pivot your study. Instead of dwelling solely on the *end*, let’s deepen our understanding of the *beginning*—the beginning of the gospel restored. I highly recommend diving back into the teachings on the Atonement. If you haven't already, take some time to explore the Book Club options in HolyPlaces on the Book of Mormon. Wrestling with the text together helps anchor our hearts in truth.
A Word from Davee: Navigating the Hard Questions
Speaking of anchoring ourselves in truth, I wanted to bring in our friend, Davee. If you've been studying the signs of the times, you've probably run into tough questions—questions that feel big and unanswered. Davee excels at the AI Investigator role. He can walk you through exactly what an investigator might ask regarding these deep topics, and more importantly, how to answer them with grace, scripture, and the Spirit's testimony. Don't let those questions paralyze your discipleship; let them guide your study!
Remember, the calling is always to share what we know, and to invite others to learn more. If you feel the Spirit prompting you to share your testimony with someone—a neighbor, a coworker, a friend—don't wait for a formal setting. That is your moment to be a disciple.
If this message resonated with you, or if you’re ready to deepen your study of the restored gospel, please join us! We're hosting a free weekly Disciple Challenge this week. It’s a low-pressure way to focus on a specific scripture passage and build our collective testimony. Details are in the comments below!
Let’s keep our eyes fixed on the Savior, and our feet planted firmly in the gospel work He has called us to do today.
