Sometimes, when you’re deep in the field, or maybe you’re just wrestling with a tough question during a missionary discussion, the sheer weight of the world can feel heavy. The challenges—the doubts, the apathy, the sheer *difficulty* of the work—can make it feel like the finish line is miles away.

It’s easy, when we’re knee-deep in the day-to-day of discipleship, to get bogged down in the immediate struggle. We focus on the next appointment, the next lesson, the next personal conversion. And while those moments are sacred, we can’t let them eclipse the grand, glorious picture.

There is a promise, a beautiful, unshakable anchor for our souls: the King is coming back. He will wipe away every tear, end all pain, and banish all sin and shame forever. That vision—that eternal destination—is what keeps the flame burning brightly in our hearts.

Keeping Our Eyes on the Eternal Horizon

This isn't just a nice sentiment to sing at a hymn; it’s the very fuel for sustained discipleship. It’s what helps us, as returned missionaries, to keep our hearts humble and our focus outward, toward the Savior. It’s what helps us, as lifelong disciples, to remember that our daily efforts—the scripture study in HolyPlaces, the small acts of kindness, the consistent effort to be Christlike—are all part of the grand narrative leading to that day.

When we internalize that the Lord is awesome, that He is great in all He does, it changes how we approach everything. It shifts our perspective from, “How do I get this person to accept the gospel *this week*?” to, “How can I testify of the *reality* of the Savior’s coming, no matter what?”

This principle is vital for every member who wants to be an effective internet missionary. We are ambassadors, and ambassadors always point to the capital city, not the local coffee shop. Our testimony must always point to the glorious return of the Savior.

A Bite-Sized Mission-Prep Skill: The Eternal Anchor

If you are preparing for missions, or even if you are just serving in your local ward, I want to leave you with this practical skill: When you feel yourself getting discouraged by resistance, pause. Take a breath, and instead of dwelling on the *resistance*, focus your testimony on the *Promise*. Talk about the covenant path, talk about the Atonement, and most importantly, talk about the glorious day when all things shall be made new. Let the promise be the anchor of your conversation.

For those of us who are seasoned disciples, remember that the journey is continuous. We are all perpetually in missionary preparation. We are constantly gathering Israel, and that gathering culminates in the return of the King.
