The 'New You': Living Like a New Creation in the Field

Becoming a new creation in Christ isn't just a feeling; it's a lifestyle that radiates outward into the field.

Sometimes, you scroll through social media, or maybe you're reading a magazine, and you see those 'before and after' pictures. The transformation is startling—a dramatic shift in appearance, a whole new look. We have a strange, deep-seated attraction to that kind of 'before and after,' don't we?

It's easy to think that becoming a 'new you' is just about changing your appearance—a fresh haircut, a new wardrobe, a different profile picture. But what if I told you that the most profound, most life-altering transformation available to us has nothing to do with superficial touches of expertise?

It has everything to do with the Spirit, and it happens when we accept the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

When we talk about being a new creation—2 Corinthians 5:17—we aren't talking about a cosmetic makeover. We are talking about a fundamental change of heart, a rebirth that passes away the old self and brings forth something entirely new, made in the image of Jesus. This is the glorious work the Spirit does in us.

Living Like the New You

The gospel isn't just a set of beliefs we memorize for our missionary discussions; it’s a power source. It’s something we are called to *live* like. Think about the stories we hear from the field—the testimony that moves someone from skepticism to sincere belief. It’s not just the words; it’s the evidence of change.

I was recently reflecting on a devotional that spoke to this very concept. It reminded me that the true evidence of a change isn't just saying, "I'm going forward." It's what you do immediately after you accept that invitation.

The Spirit, when it works, doesn't just whisper comfort; it empowers action. It empowers repentance. It empowers us to leave behind the old habits, the old ways of thinking, and step into the covenant path.

The Internet Missionary Mindset

This principle is the cornerstone of being a disciple anywhere, all the time. Whether you are in the MTC, preparing for your first transfer, or sitting at the kitchen table with a neighbor, you are called to live like that new creation. You are called to let the Spirit guide your actions.

If you’re feeling the weight of the work, or if you’re struggling to see that transformation in your own life, remember that the process is ongoing. We are constantly being refined. That's why I always encourage my brothers and sisters to lean into the study process. If you’re looking for a tangible way to deepen your understanding of these principles, I highly recommend diving into the Iron Rod. It’s filled with insights that help us see the gospel through a clearer lens.

For those of you who are getting ready to go, or who are already in the field, let’s keep the momentum going. If you haven't already, I encourage you to join our next Disciple Challenge this week. It’s a wonderful, low-pressure way to practice keeping the Spirit close!

Remember, we are all on this journey together. Let's keep pointing others toward the Savior, and let's keep living as if we've already received that glorious transformation.
