The Spirit of Gathering: Seeing the Work in Every Crowd

The excitement of global gatherings—whether for popes or for the gospel—reminds us that the Spirit is at work everywhere, calling us to be Internet missionaries.

Sometimes, the sheer energy of a crowd—the collective anticipation, the buzz of excited voices, the feeling of being gathered together—can be overwhelming. It reminds me, personally, of the feeling of arriving in a new mission field, or even just walking into a large temple hallowed by the Spirit. There is an electric charge in the air when people are gathered with a shared, powerful purpose.

Watching footage like Emily Wilson’s greetings from Krakow, waiting for Pope Francis, you see that universal human yearning for connection, for spiritual guidance, and for the feeling of belonging. People are excited, they are ready to say hello, they are anticipating something greater than themselves. It is a powerful display of the Spirit at work.

The Global Field: Everywhere is a Mission Field

As returned missionaries, we know that the mission field isn't confined by borders, zip codes, or even languages. It is everywhere. The gathering of Israel is a principle that transcends geography. When we see people gathering in Krakow, we are seeing a principle that parallels the gathering of souls for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The lesson here, my friends, isn't about the Pope; it's about the *feeling* of anticipation and the *power* of shared purpose. The Spirit of the gospel is the greatest gathering force of all. It draws people—investigators, friends, strangers—to the truth, regardless of where they are standing.

Being a Disciple Anywhere, All the Time

This is the core message we carry as Rogue Disciples: that we don't need to be in an MTC or standing on a street corner with a tract to be doing the work. We are Internet missionaries, and our field is the world. The anticipation we feel watching these global events should fuel our local efforts. If the Spirit can draw thousands of people to a park in Poland, it can draw an investigator to a single Sunday school class, or to a simple online discussion.

A quick mission-prep thought for you: Next time you are in a large crowd—at a concert, a park, or a major event—pause. Instead of just observing the culture, observe the *people*. Who looks contemplative? Who looks lost? Who looks genuinely curious? Those are the people the Spirit is drawing to you. Your mission-prep skill is simply to shift your focus from the spectacle to the souls.

Leveraging the Spirit in Your Daily Life

How do we translate that feeling of global spiritual anticipation into actionable discipleship? By using the tools we have available.

  • HolyPlaces: If you are in a new area and want to deepen your personal study, utilize HolyPlaces. It helps structure your Bible Study Groups or Book Clubs, turning a physical location into a place of sacred learning.
  • Davee's AI Investigator: If you have an investigator asking a difficult question—the kind of question that makes you pause—don't panic. Use Davee. He's trained to walk you through those hard questions, helping you answer them not just with facts, but with the Spirit and the fullness of the restored gospel.
  • The Iron Rod: For continued growth, I highly recommend checking out the latest articles by Iron Rod authors available in LivingBook. They provide deep dives into scripture that will enrich your own testimony and strengthen your ability to share the gospel.
  • The calling is always there. It’s not waiting for a transfer, it’s not waiting for the next district leader meeting. It is calling you to be Christlike *right now*, wherever you are.

    Your Disciple Challenge

For this week, I challenge you to identify three people in your life—friends, coworkers, or neighbors—whom you genuinely feel the Spirit calling you to care for. Don't focus on what you *have* to say; focus on what you *want* to listen to. Initiate a genuine, non-missionary-related conversation, and simply be the most attentive, humble disciple they have ever encountered. That is the greatest preparatory work we can do.
