Brothers and sisters, when we contemplate the profound covenants made through the priesthood, the covenants that bind us to the eternal truths revealed in the temple, it is natural to feel a sense of sacred exclusivity. We are taught of sacred interviews, of covenants that set apart the servants of the Lord. These covenants are sacred, and their keeping is paramount to our discipleship.

Yet, the Spirit whispers a counter-melody to any notion of limitation or reservation. We are called to a witness that transcends the confines of our specific calling, a testimony that flows not just from the highest offices, but from the very heart of every covenant-keeping Latter-day Saint.

The Scope of the Witness: From Elite Circle to Global Calling

The recent discourse, echoed by our leaders, reminds us that the test of our calling is not contingent upon the world’s belief, but upon the Lord’s calling upon us. This is the bedrock of our faith, a truth as immutable as the covenant itself. We are not Apostles of the world; we are Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ. This distinction is vital, for it roots our authority not in human acclaim, but in divine decree.

Consider the weight of the words: “But that witness, the testimony of this work, is not reserved to those few of us who lead the Church. In proper order that witness comes to men and women and children all over the world.”

This is not a call to diminish the sacred covenants or the unique ordinances of the temple. Rather, it is a profound expansion of our understanding of discipleship. Our primary duty, after diligently studying the scriptures and keeping our covenants, is to bear witness. This witness, powered by the Spirit, is universal. It requires us to be scholars, yes, to study the Book of Mormon and the doctrines revealed in general conference, but more urgently, it requires us to be missionaries of the Spirit, wherever we are called.

We are taught to be diligent in our study—to pore over the revelations of the Book of Mormon and the covenants we have made. But the knowledge gained in the study hall must translate into the boldness of the street corner, the quiet conviction in the family circle, and the steadfastness before the adversary. The Spirit does not grant a testimony to merely those who sit in the highest councils; it flows through the diligent heart of the covenant-keeper.
