The Unscripted Connection: How a Conversation on a Plane Changed Everything

Sometimes, you just need to be present. You need to let the Spirit guide you into conversations you never planned for. We all have those moments, don't we? Moments where the mundane—like sitting next to a stranger on a flight—becomes the very crucible where our understanding of the gospel, and ourselves, is profoundly shifted.

Michelle’s story, shared recently, is a beautiful reminder that the Lord orchestrates our encounters, even when we're just trying to get from Point A to Point B. She spoke about her journey to Idaho, initially approaching the faith with skepticism, even hearing whispers that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was a 'cult.' We get so good at our missionary preparation skills, at anticipating the hard questions, that we sometimes forget to just *listen*.

Michelle’s experience reminds us that being an internet missionary isn't just about having perfect talking points; it’s about having an open heart and being willing to talk about what matters—family, life, and what we believe about Jesus Christ—with anyone, anywhere. That connection with the cowboy, rooted in shared conversation about life, bypassed the labels and the fear.

This is the core of the work, isn't it? To build relationships first. To find the common ground—the shared humanity—before we even get to the doctrinal differences. It’s what we preach in our missionary discussions, but it’s lived out in the quiet moments.
