The Unshakeable Truth: Finding Abundance in the Atonement

Brothers and sisters, sometimes I feel like I’ve been back in the field for years—the dust of the mission field still seems to cling to my clothes, and the memories of those earnest missionary discussions are so vivid. We talk so much about the ordinances, about the temple covenants, and about the callings, that sometimes we forget the absolute bedrock truth that anchors everything: the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

It’s easy, when we’re deep in study or preparing for a transfer, to get caught up in the mechanics of the gospel—the *how* of the plan. But today, I want us to pause and soak in the *why*. Why did He come? Why was it necessary?

The video we’re looking at today, though it’s in Tagalog, speaks volumes about this. It strips away the cultural noise and gets right to the core: the gulf between a holy God and our sinful nature. It reminds us that our best efforts—our good works, our philosophy, even our best efforts as disciples—fall short. We can try to bridge that gap with our own willpower, but we can’t.

The Gulf and the Bridge

Think of it like this: God’s love is infinite, and our need for it is equally infinite. The gap between those two points is immense. The gospel teaches us that sin creates that separation—that spiritual death. And what is the provision? It’s not a better book of scripture, or a more rigorous study plan. It is the Son, who lived, died, and rose again.

This is the core of our testimony, isn't it? That Jesus Christ bridged that gulf. He didn't just point the way; He *became* the way. He paid the penalty.

When we talk about receiving Him, sometimes we get bogged down in what "faith" means. It sounds so abstract. But remember what the scriptures teach: it’s not just an intellectual nod, or a fleeting emotional experience. It’s an act of the will. It’s turning from self and actively inviting Him in.

Becoming an Internet Missionary

This principle isn't just for those standing on a street corner with tract cards. It applies to us right here, right now, as rogue disciples. Every member can be an internet missionary, every member can be a disciple anywhere, all the time. You are inviting the light in.
