The Unshakeable Truth: Remembering What Our God Is Capable Of

Sometimes we need a powerful reminder of the Atonement—the sheer, awesome power of our God. Let's talk about keeping that truth central in our discipleship.

Brothers and sisters, friends, fellow disciples—sometimes the weight of the world, or even the weight of our own calling, can feel heavy. We talk so much about the *work*, about making gospel covenants, about being *Christlike* in our daily lives, and those things are vital. But today, I wanted to bring us back to the source, back to the sheer, overwhelming *power* that undergirds everything we do.

Think about the hymns, the songs we sing in the meetinghouse, or the music that swells when we feel the Spirit wash over us. There’s a recurring theme, a powerful declaration: Our God is an awesome God. It’s more than just a nice sentiment; it’s a theological anchor for our entire lives.

When we sing about the cross, when we contemplate the Resurrection—the fact that He put death back in its place, that He saved our souls for eternity—it’s a reminder of what the Atonement truly is. It’s not just a nice story; it’s the foundation of our hope and the core of our testimony.

Keeping the Focus on the Awesome

As we continue in our mission preparation, or as we are out in the field sharing the gospel, it’s easy to get bogged down in the logistics: scheduling, coordinating transfers, mastering the perfect opening question. And those things matter! They are the mechanics of the work. But if we lose sight of the *why*—the infinite, awesome power displayed on the cross—the mechanics can feel hollow.

This is where I want to leave you with a thought, especially as we continue our journey as rogue disciples. We are called to be internet missionaries, disciples everywhere, all the time. And when we feel discouraged after a tough missionary discussion, or when we’ve been studying the Book of Mormon for weeks and feel like we’re spinning our wheels, we need to remember that the power we draw upon isn't from our own preparation, our own charisma, or even our best study habits.

It comes from Him. It comes from the God who is awesome. It’s the ultimate source of strength that allows us to keep going, to keep learning, and to keep sharing the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

A Challenge for the Week

For our weekly Disciple Challenge, I want us to focus on scripture study through the lens of power. I suggest we look at Isaiah, perhaps revisiting the passages where Isaiah speaks of the Lord's mighty hand. If you’re looking for a deeper dive, I highly recommend checking out the Iron Rod authors who have written on the nature of God. If you haven't already, spend some time in LivingBook exploring the social scripture study layer related to the Atonement.

If you’re feeling the need for deeper doctrinal grounding, don't forget about HolyPlaces. Diving into a Bible Study Group or a Book Club there can really help solidify these truths.

Remember, every member can be a disciple anywhere, all the time. Let the memory of His awesome power fuel your efforts this week. I know the Spirit will testify of it!
