Walking Through the Valley: Finding Strength When Fear Whispers Doubt

Brothers and sisters, have you ever felt that invisible weight? The kind of anxiety that settles deep in your chest, whispering doubts just when you need to take the next step? It’s a subtle enemy, isn't it? It doesn't always roar; sometimes, it just whispers, and that whisper can feel louder than any thunder.

As we continue in the work—whether we are in the MTC, serving in the field, or right here in our own homes—we are constantly being called to trust the Lord. And trust, friends, requires us to walk *despite* the fear. We learn that we receive from God through faith, but we are so easily tempted to receive from the adversary through fear.

I was recently reflecting on some powerful teachings regarding this very battle. It hit me how often we treat fear like a physical barrier we must simply overcome, when the truth is that fear tries to *stop* us from moving at all. It tries to keep us safe in the known, even if the known is painful.

What stood out to me, and I hope it will resonate with you, is the shift in focus. The Lord doesn't promise that we will *never* feel afraid. He promises something infinitely better: He will be with us. He says, “Fear not, for I am with thee.”

This isn't a magic spell that wipes away all worry. It’s a divine promise of companionship. It’s the knowledge that even when we are walking through what the scriptures call the “dark valley,” we are not navigating it alone. Think about Psalm 23:4. It’s a beautiful reminder that His rod and staff—His protection and guidance—are right there with us.

Building Courage by Faith, Not Absence of Fear

The speaker mentioned that fear isn't something we can just *will* away; we have to confront it. This is a principle that applies to everything in our discipleship. When we are preparing for missionary discussions, or when we are trying to teach a friend about the Plan of Salvation, there will be moments where our own knowledge feels shaky, or our own confidence wavers. That’s when we have to remember: I will do this, even if I feel nervous.

This concept of "doing it despite the fear" is what makes us true disciples. It’s not about being fearless; it’s about being faithful *in* the fear. It’s about choosing to trust the covenant path even when the emotional currents are pulling us toward the shore of anxiety.

The Power of the Witness

As we all strive to be better disciples, remember that our greatest tool isn't perfect knowledge; it's our testimony. Our willingness to share what we know, what we feel, and what we believe, even when our voice shakes a little. That’s the essence of being an internet missionary—sharing the light from wherever you are, anytime.
