Walking Through the Wilderness: Remembering That Nothing Will Lack

Sometimes, the spiritual journey feels less like a well-lit path and more like trekking through a vast, empty desert. You look around, and what you see is scarcity—scarcity of funds, scarcity of patience, scarcity of understanding, or maybe just scarcity of joy. It can feel overwhelming, like the very breath catches in your chest.

I remember times, years ago, when my own family navigated economic deserts. The income streams dried up, and the worry felt like a physical weight. It’s easy, when we’re deep in the weeds of trial, to forget the promises we’ve heard whispered in the temple or taught in missionary discussions.

But friends, the pattern of the Lord is consistent. Just as the Israelites wandered in the wilderness after leaving Egypt, facing the terrifying unknowns of survival, the Lord provided. He didn't wait for them to reach the promised land; He provided for them *daily*.

The Daily Miracle of Manna

The scripture is clear: Jehovah told Moses, “Behold, I will make bread grow for you from heaven; and the people shall go out and gather daily according to the day that it may be given, that I may test them, whether they will walk according to my law.” (Exodus 16:4). They gathered manna for forty years. Day after day. It wasn't a sudden, overwhelming feast; it was a consistent, daily miracle.

What does this teach us today, as we strive to be better disciples, whether we are in the MTC, serving in a stake, or right here, connecting across the Sovereign.ink network? It teaches us that God’s provision is tailored to the *day* we are in.

This isn't just a historical lesson; it’s a promise for our modern discipleship. Whether your desert is financial, relational, mental, or spiritual, you are not walking alone. The Lord provides. He has a plan, and His plan includes sustaining you until you reach the promised land of peace and revelation.

Applying the Promise: "Nothing Shall Lack"

I’ve learned that the key isn't just *knowing* the promise—it's *applying* it. We have made it a habit in our own family to pause before meals and recall the promise: “Nothing shall lack.” And guess what? Sometimes, even when the bank account looks sparse, or the conversation feels strained, the blessing *is* there. The Lord provides.

This is the essence of being an internet missionary today. We don't always have the physical presence of a companion, but we have the Spirit, and we have the power of the word. We can use our little pockets of time—waiting for the bus, during a break, or right here on the Sovereign—to anchor ourselves to that truth. We can turn our moments of scarcity into moments of testimony.

If you’re feeling the pinch of the desert right now, I invite you to anchor yourself to Psalm 23:1: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” Make that promise your mantra. Don't just read it; *live* it. Believe that because you are His child, He will not let you lack anything essential for the journey.
