When the King is in the Room: Feeling the Presence in Our Ministry

There are moments—moments that feel almost too big for words—when you are gathered with your companions, or perhaps with a group of investigators, and the atmosphere shifts. It’s a palpable weight, a profound sense of peace, and an unmistakable feeling that the Lord Himself is in the room.

I was thinking the other day about a time during my own missionary days, after a particularly challenging evening of discussions. We had been going over some tough doctrinal points, and things were getting tense. Then, something shifted. It wasn't a dramatic announcement or a booming voice; it was quieter. It was a collective exhale, a sense of deep, abiding calm settling over us. It was the Spirit, and it felt like the King was right there with us.

These moments are the fuel for the work. They remind us that our efforts, no matter how small they feel—whether it's sharing a scripture passage in a casual setting or spending hours studying in a Book Club—are not in our own strength. They are powered by the Atonement and the Spirit.

It’s easy, especially when we’re deep in the grind of mission prep or right in the thick of the field, to focus only on the mechanics: the lesson plan, the scripture references, the perfect testimony. But the greatest skill we can hone, the one that will make us better disciples anywhere, all the time, is learning to *sense* that presence. It’s learning to be receptive.

When we are learning to be Christlike, we are learning to be sensitive to the Spirit. If we are focused on the Lord, He will be focused on us. And when He is focused on us, we can feel Him. This isn't just for the missionary training center; it’s for the living room, the workplace, the online gathering—everywhere we are called to be an Internet missionary.

What does this look like practically? It means preparation. It means knowing your core scriptures—your foundation—so that when the Spirit prompts you to share something, you aren't scrambling.
