When the Weather Betrays You: Building Food Security on Your Balcony (or in Your Basement)

If you want to scale up from the jar, look into Deep Water Culture (DWC) systems. These are just floating rafts in a tub—super simple, require minimal materials, and are fantastic for fast greens. You can build a small DWC setup on a balcony using repurposed storage totes. It’s an immediate step up from the jar, but still totally manageable in a small space.
