When the World Feels Unsettled: Finding Strength in Preparation

Brothers and sisters, if you’ve been in the field lately—whether you’re out on a mission, serving as a returned missionary, or even just sharing your testimony with a neighbor—you’ve heard the weight of the world. We hear the sobering prophecies, we see the headlines, and sometimes, it can feel like the very ground beneath our feet is shifting.

It’s easy, when the news cycle is relentless, to feel anxious. We look at the current events and wonder, “Are we ready? Is the work too big? How are we supposed to navigate this?”

I was reflecting recently on a talk given by President Nelson, and it really struck me. He spoke of the Lord warning us that times would be difficult, that men's hearts would fail, and that even the elect would face challenges. It’s a heavy message to process. It makes you wonder, doesn't it, how we are supposed to balance the somber warnings with the glorious vision of the work of these last days?

If you’re feeling that tension—that pull between fear and faith—I want to remind you of the beautiful anchor point the Spirit always points us toward: Preparation. It’s not about having all the answers; it’s about being ready to trust Him when the answers are unclear.

The Simple Assurance: “If Ye Are Prepared, Ye Shall Not Fear”

That scripture, that simple declaration, is the bedrock of our discipleship. It’s the promise that anchors us when the storms rage. When we focus on what we *can* control—our own hearts, our own covenants, our own daily efforts to be more Christlike—we divest ourselves of the paralyzing fear of the unknown.

This principle applies whether you are studying for your temple recommend, preparing for a missionary discussion, or simply trying to know the scriptures better in your own living room. It means showing up faithfully, day after day, and letting the Spirit guide the next step.

This is the core of being an internet missionary today. We don't need to be physically in a specific corner of the world to do the work. We can gather Israel right where we are—in our homes, our workplaces, and our online communities. Every member can be a disciple anywhere, all the time.

💡 Mission Prep Skill: The "Why" Behind the "What"

This week, as you study for your Gospel Doctrine questions or engage in a Book Club discussion, don't just memorize the doctrine. Ask yourself: "Why did the Lord give this commandment or promise?" Understanding the *eternal principle* behind the scripture helps you connect it to the investigator's heart, making your answers more Spirit-filled and less academic.
