Building on the Rock: Keeping Our Foundations Strong for the Storms Ahead

Brothers and sisters, friends, fellow disciples—have you ever felt the ground shifting beneath your feet? Maybe it was a sudden disappointment, a difficult conversation with a family member, or perhaps a personal loss that hit you with the force of a lightning strike. Life, by its very nature, is full of tempests.

It reminds me of a recent reflection I had after watching a beautiful message about building our lives. It struck me how often we build things—careers, relationships, even personal doctrines—on what *feels* solid, only to have the unexpected storm reveal the cracks.

The Parable of the House: What Are Our Foundations?

Jesus taught us the parable of the two houses: one built on the rock, and one built on the sand. When the sun shines and the calm days pass, you can’t tell the difference, right? The foundations are hidden. But when the tempest hits—and trust me, it *will* hit—the difference between the two structures is everything.

A life built upon the Lord and His sacred word can weather anything. But what does it mean, practically, to build on that rock? It’s not just about knowing the scriptures; it’s about integrating that knowledge until it becomes the bedrock of our daily choices.

Two Keys to Construction: Listening and Doing

The message was crystal clear: to build on the rock, we must do two things, and both require consistent effort. First, we must **LISTEN TO THE WORD**. This means dedicating time, sacred time, to nourish our spirits through scripture study. This principle applies everywhere, doesn't it? Whether you are in the MTC, serving in the field, or right here in your own living room, the challenge remains the same: build your life on Christ.
