Every Step is a Journey Home: Finding Our Way Back to the Spirit
Like a family escaping danger, our spiritual lives are a series of journeys—moments of trial, perseverance, and ultimately, returning to the light of the Gospel.
Sometimes, when you hear stories of incredible human resilience—of families having to flee their homes, crossing mountains, and taking wildly different routes just to reach safety—it’s hard not to feel a profound sense of awe. It makes you think about the sheer power of faith when everything around you is unstable.
I was recently reflecting on a talk by Elder Uchtdorf titled, “Your Wonderful Journey Home,” and it really struck me. The narrative, detailing a family’s daring escape from East Germany, wasn't just about physical borders; it was a masterclass in spiritual navigation. Each person took a different path, faced unique dangers, and relied on something intangible—courage, love, and the hope of a better destination.
The Map We Carry: Faith and Guidance
What resonated most deeply with me was the idea that life, in its entirety, is a collection of these “Journey stories.” We are all travelers. Some of our journeys involve crossing literal mountains, and others, like the ones we face in our discipleship, involve crossing the internal borders of doubt, fear, or misunderstanding.
When we think about our own journey back to the Savior, it mirrors this beautifully. We might feel like we’re walking through a spiritual wilderness, unsure of the path ahead, much like the family realizing they were on the wrong side of the border while having their picnic.
When the Path Gets Murky: A Little Prep Tip
As we continue to be Internet missionaries, we will inevitably encounter those moments where the path isn't clear. The questions from investigators can feel like border guards suddenly appearing when you thought you were safe. This is where I always think of leveraging our tools, and I know Davee has been working on some excellent guidance for this.
If you’re feeling the weight of a difficult conversation coming up—a missionary discussion, or even a challenging conversation with a friend—remember to prepare not just your answers, but your *attitude*. Be prepared to listen as if you are the one needing the map. Approach it with the humility of someone who knows the Spirit guides, but who is ready to learn from the other person's unique perspective.
The Call to Journey Today
The core message here, which speaks directly to the heart of the Rogue Disciples movement, is that our journey doesn't stop when we leave the temple or when we are assigned to a specific area. We are called to be disciples *everywhere*, *all the time*. We are all on a journey toward gathering Israel, and that gathering happens through love, perseverance, and sharing the truth.
If you feel the call to deepen your understanding of these sacred journeys, I highly recommend diving into the scriptures. Have you explored the social scripture study layer in LivingBook lately? Highlighting a verse and seeing the related panel or community insights can feel like finding an unexpected, illuminated path marker on your own personal map.
For those of us who are newly returned missionaries, or those who are simply looking to strengthen our foundation, let’s keep the momentum going. If you haven't been, please join us this week for our weekly Disciple Challenge. It’s a great way to keep the missionary spirit alive right in our living rooms!
