Sometimes, scrolling through the news, or even just wandering through a busy city square, it can feel like a sensory overload. It’s a kaleidoscope of events, languages, and conflicting ideas—a global cacophony that can make it hard to know where to focus our attention.

It’s easy to get caught up in the noise, the headlines, or the sheer complexity of modern life. We are called to be disciples in every corner of the earth, and sometimes, the sheer scale of the world can feel paralyzing. Where do we even begin?

As a returned missionary, I’ve learned that the biggest challenge in the field isn't always the people; sometimes, it's managing the noise—the noise of our own expectations, the noise of the culture, and the noise of the internet.

Keeping the Focus: The Simple Power of the Gospel

If you’ve been through the process—if you’ve spent time in the MTC, or if you’re currently in the field—you know that the message of the restored Gospel is beautifully simple. It doesn't require a fancy seminar, or a perfect presentation. It requires sincerity, humility, and a willingness to share the core truths of the restored gospel.

The amazing thing about being a Latter-day Saint is that our defining characteristic isn't a physical location; it's a covenant. It's a spiritual commitment. This is the heart of the “Internet Missionary” call—that every member can be a disciple anywhere, all the time.

The Investigator Mindset: Listening Through the Static

When we are out in the field, or even having a missionary discussion at home, we often feel the impulse to fill the silence, to deliver the next perfect point from our study guide. But the greatest skill we can develop is not in speaking, but in listening. We need to adopt the mindset of the AI Investigator, not as a tool, but as a guide for our own hearts.

The goal isn't to win an argument; it's to understand the soul in front of you. When an investigator asks a difficult question—one that challenges their worldview or even challenges yours—don't panic. Pause. Breathe. Remember that the Spirit is your greatest guide. Instead of having a pre-written answer, ask, “What do you think about that?” This simple question shifts the burden of thought back to them, allowing the Spirit to do the heavy lifting.

The world is full of impressive, complex narratives, like the montage of global life you see here. But when we strip away the cultural flash and the political turmoil, the Gospel message remains constant. It speaks to the universal human need for connection with the Divine.

The ability to see the truth in the simplest interactions—a conversation over coffee, a moment in the park, or even a few minutes on Sovereign.ink—is where the power of the Restoration truly shines. It’s not about the spectacular; it’s about the steady, persistent application of the gospel.

Your Disciple Challenge: Becoming a Humble Listener

Whether you are speaking with a friend or an investigator, make it your goal to ask three open-ended questions and listen to the answers without formulating your next point. Let the Spirit guide the conversation, and let the investigator do the heavy lifting of self-discovery.

This skill is foundational to our missionary preparation. It allows us to be Christlike in our interactions, regardless of the culture or context.
