Hearing the Word: Keeping Our Ears Open to the Spirit's Whisper

Sometimes the world tries to mute the clear message of the Gospel. Let's remember how to keep our ears open for the Spirit in our daily discipleship.

Brothers and sisters, have you ever noticed how quickly the cultural noise can become deafening? It’s like the world has an uncanny ability to tune out anything that sounds too much like the Gospel. It’s a constant battle, isn't it? We're called to be Internet missionaries, to share the restored gospel in every corner of the earth, and sometimes the resistance feels… well, it feels like they’re physically covering their ears.

I was recently reflecting on a talk, and it struck me how often we, in our enthusiasm to share the light, forget how easily that light can be dimmed by cultural noise. The speaker was talking about how certain traditions try to rename, reframe, or simply mute the central message of Christ. They want 'Happy Holidays,' but they can't handle the weight of 'Christ.'

Keeping Our Ears Open to the Spirit's Whisper

It’s a powerful reminder that the message itself—the Atonement, the Resurrection, the divinity of Jesus Christ—is so profound, so utterly transformative, that it can feel threatening to those who are comfortable in their current understanding. They might try to dilute it, package it, or simply ignore it. But as returned missionaries, we know the truth: the core message cannot be watered down.

Think about the sheer scope of what we are testifying of. Five thousand and four hundred years of prophecy pointing to one life, one sacrifice, one glorious resurrection. It’s not a seasonal sentiment; it’s the bedrock of our eternal progression. When we are doing missionary discussions, or even just studying scriptures in our Book Club, we must approach it with the reverence of someone who knows the weight of what they are discussing.

The Power of the Word

This isn't just about theology; it’s about *listening*. The Spirit is the ultimate guide, and the Spirit speaks through the words of revelation, through our scriptures, and through the testimonies of our brethren. If we approach our studies—whether it’s an intensive Bible Study Group or just a quiet moment with the scriptures—with the mindset of an investigator, we are primed to hear what the Spirit wants us to hear.

“The Spirit doesn’t shout; it whispers. It nudges us toward truth, even when the world is shouting distractions.”

This is where our preparation skills come into play. If you’re feeling rusty on how to handle a difficult question, remember that Davee is here for that. He’s trained in the AI Investigator role, and he can walk you through anticipating those tough questions—the ones that try to make you cover your ears—and giving answers rooted in truth and compassion. Don't let the fear of the objection silence the testimony.

A Disciple’s Challenge: Listening Deeper

My challenge for all of us this week, as we continue to serve as disciples everywhere, is to practice *active listening*. When you talk to a friend, a neighbor, or even when you’re studying with your companions, don't just wait for your turn to speak. Pause. Really listen for the underlying question, the core need, the place where the Spirit might be nudging *them* toward the truth.

Let’s keep our focus on the eternal narrative: the coming of the Christ. Let’s make sure our lives, our service, and our discussions reflect that glorious, undeniable story. We are disciples everywhere, all the time. Let’s be ready to share the message, no matter how many 'Happy Holidays' attempts we encounter.

If you want to sharpen your skills in handling difficult questions, I highly recommend spending some time with Davee this week. He’s a fantastic resource for practicing those tough conversations!
