More Than Just Bread: Finding the True Sustenance for Our Journey

Brothers and sisters, have you ever felt overwhelmed by the sheer *scale* of the work? You look at the needs in the field, you look at the sheer number of souls who need to hear the gospel, and it can feel like trying to feed a massive crowd with just a handful of loaves.

It’s easy, especially when we’re just starting out, or even when we’re seasoned returned missionaries, to get caught up in the tangible—the materials, the scheduled meetings, the visible miracles. But the Savior’s words, and the pattern of His ministry, constantly point us beyond the immediate need.

Watching the account of the feeding of the five thousand is a powerful reminder of this. The crowd was hungry, and Jesus provided an abundance—twelve baskets full! It was a physical miracle that left everyone satisfied.

The Bread That Lasts Forever

But then, the conversation shifts. When the people are full from the physical bread, Jesus pivots the discussion. He doesn't let them get comfortable with the temporary fix. He asks them, pointedly, to consider what sustains them beyond the next meal.

This is where the lesson for us, as rogue disciples, really hits home. We are not just here to point people to the nearest physical comfort or the next scheduled meeting. We are here to point them to the sustenance that lasts for *life eternal*. The Savior declares, “I am the bread of life.”

Think about that. When we are sharing the gospel, we aren't just presenting a set of doctrines or a nice story from the Book of Mormon. We are pointing to the living, breathing, Atonement-making power of Jesus Christ. That is the ultimate, unending provision.

When you feel yourself getting bogged down in *what* you should say, remember the principle of the "Bread of Life." Instead of focusing on listing doctrines, focus on inviting them to the *source* of the sustenance. Ask questions that lead them to the Savior, not just to the scriptures.
