More Than Just Titles: Remembering Who We Truly Are in Christ

Sometimes we get caught up in the 'show'—the accolades, the titles, the things that look like they grant status. But the Lord reminds us where our true kingship lies.

Brothers and sisters, as we gather together in the digital pews, it’s easy to get distracted by the noise—the latest controversy, the shiny new thing, or even the sheer entertainment value of a good, rambling conversation. But sometimes, when we stop and listen closely, the Spirit whispers a truth that cuts right through the clutter.

I was listening the other day to some folks talking, and the conversation drifted through everything from shotgun choices to the sheer absurdity of modern marketing. But what really snagged my attention was a discussion about kingship. It got me thinking about what it means to be a king, not by earthly decree or by what the world recognizes, but by covenant with the Lord.

It struck me how often we, in our discipleship, are tempted to build our own little 'kingdoms'—our own achievements, our own spiritual accolades. We worry about our titles, our callings, or how visible our service is. We get so caught up in the *doing* that we forget the *being*.

The Unshakeable Crown

The conversation touched on Revelation 1:6, reminding us that we are made to be kings. But the world laughs at that claim. They laugh at the idea that we claim a kingship that isn't backed by earthly currency or visible power. They laugh when we testify that our true King is Christ, the King of Kings. They look at the symbols of power—the crowns, the titles—and they see nothing but delusion.

This is a powerful reminder for every one of us who is out in the field, whether we are in a mission, serving in a stake, or just having a quiet moment with our Book Club group. The world will always try to define our worth by what they can see, what they can measure, or what they can trademark.

But as returned missionaries, as lifelong disciples, we know the source of our authority. Our authority doesn't come from a certificate or a visible uniform; it comes from the covenant we have made with God. It comes from the Spirit guiding us, from the ordinances we have received, and from the willingness to follow the Savior, no matter how unpopular the claim.

Being Christlike in All Things

If we are to be true disciples, we must anchor ourselves in the principles that endure—the principles that are eternal. This isn't just about surviving the week; it’s about living in a way that reflects the Savior's humility, even when the world is throwing its most cynical jabs our way.

If you are feeling the pressure to perform, or if you're struggling with how to share the gospel in a secular setting, I want you to remember this: Our strength isn't in our eloquence, nor is it in our ability to debate theology until dawn. Our strength is in our testimony, rooted in the Atonement.

This week, as you prepare for your own missionary discussions, or as you are studying for your next Bible Study Group, I encourage you to pause. Don't just focus on *what* you need to say. Focus on *who* you are in Christ. Let that humble, eternal identity guide your words.

We are called to be Internet missionaries, yes, but more importantly, we are called to be disciples *everywhere*, all the time. Let's keep building our kingdom on the rock of revelation, not on the shifting sands of worldly approval.
