When the Storm Hits: Standing Firm in the Spirit's Current

Brother/Sister, have you ever felt like you’ve done everything right? You’ve kept your covenants, you’ve studied, you’ve served—you’ve done the work. And then, life hits you with a wave of difficulty. Maybe it’s a deep personal trial, or perhaps it’s in an area where you thought you were already standing on solid ground, and suddenly, the footing feels gone. You feel lost.

It’s a feeling every disciple knows. When the circumstances around us get murky, it’s easy to start doubting the goodness of the Lord, or even questioning if we’ve truly understood the covenant path.

But I want to remind you of something vital, something that the Spirit whispers to us when we feel most adrift: The scriptures don't promise that we will *never* face afflictions. They teach us *how* to be delivered from them.

The Apostle Paul taught us about spiritual warfare, and while the concept can feel heavy, the core message is one of divine provision and persistent connection. When the enemy attacks—and sometimes, when our circumstances worsen, it *feels* like an attack—our natural inclination is to panic, to pull back, or to try to solve it all in our own finite strength.

This is where we, as disciples, must lean hard into our training. This isn't just about reciting scripture; it's about internalizing the truth until it becomes the bedrock of our confidence. It’s about remembering the promises.

Think about the power in declaring what you *know* to be true, even when you can’t *feel* it to be true. We have incredible anchors in our scriptures. We can anchor ourselves to the truth that: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous; yet the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” (Psalm 34:20). This isn't a guarantee of comfort; it's a guarantee of ultimate deliverance through Christ.

This principle is gold for us as internet missionaries. When we are studying with investigators, or when we are teaching in a Book Club, they will inevitably bring up the hard questions. They will bring up the "what ifs." Our job, our sacred calling, is to guide them back to these foundational truths—to teach them how to stand firm in the Spirit's current.

If you are feeling tested right now, remember the power of declaration. Don't let doubt silence the testimony you've been given. Keep your heart and your mind firmly connected to the Savior, even when the world feels shaky.

My challenge to you this week, my dear brother/sister, is to pick one of those declarative scriptures—maybe Hebrews 13:5, "I know that the Lord will not forsake me"—and meditate on it. Don't just read it; *feel* it. Write it down. Repeat it until it feels less like a quote and more like a personal declaration of faith.
