When the Storm Rages, Our Song Must Be Louder

Sometimes, the weight of the world feels like a gathering storm. The challenges of the field, the anxieties of preparation, even the quiet moments when the Spirit seems distant—they can feel overwhelming. We hear the thunder of doubt, the roar of opposition, and it can make our own voices tremble.

But I was reminded this week of a powerful message, one that cuts through the noise and reminds us of the core truth of our discipleship: Fear has no power when we lift our voices in worship.

The Power of Our Song

There’s a profound comfort in knowing that our testimony isn't just something we *feel* when things are easy; it's something we *sing* when things are hard. Think about the hymns we sing during missionary discussions, or the songs we learn in the MTC—they aren't just melodies. They are covenants made audible.

When we remember that we are disciples of Jesus Christ, and that our Savior conquered death, any fear that tries to grip us—whether it’s fear of rejection, fear of the unknown, or fear of the opposition—is rendered powerless. The gospel is a song of victory!

This reminded me of the core principle we keep returning to in our preach my gospel efforts: Our message is built on eternal power, not temporary circumstance. If we are feeling the weight of the work right now, or if you’re gearing up for your own mission, let this sink in: The louder the storm gets, the clearer our song of faith must be.

A Bite-Sized Disciple Skill: Singing Through Doubt

What can we practice this week? I want us to focus on turning moments of doubt into moments of declarative testimony. If you’re studying scripture with your Book Club group in HolyPlaces, or if you’re working through challenging questions with Davee in an AI Investigator session, and you feel that knot of doubt tightening—don't let it silence you. Instead, pause, and mentally sing a verse of scripture that speaks of victory or endurance. Let that scripture be your anthem.

Remember that every member can be an internet missionary, and that includes the quiet, powerful act of singing your testimony through the struggle. It’s a transferable skill, just like sharing a scripture insight in the Social Scripture Study feed.
