When You Feel Invisible: Remembering That You Are Seen

Have you ever walked through a period of life where it felt like the world—or even the Spirit—was moving on without you? Like you were on the periphery, watching the miracles happen to everyone else, while your own struggles felt quiet and unseen?

If you’ve been there, my brother/sister, you know that feeling. It’s the kind of quiet ache that settles in when the daily hustle of life, the bills, the family sicknesses, and the commitments of the gospel seem to pull you so far from the radiant light of Christ.

It’s easy, especially when we’re deep in the work, to forget that even when we feel distant from the main action—when our personal battles feel small compared to the grand narrative of the Restoration—that we are never, ever forgotten. We are held.

I was recently reflecting on a powerful testimony that spoke directly to that feeling of invisibility. It reminded me of Eden, Simon Peter’s wife. She watched her husband, a man of great faith, struggle. She watched her own life become complicated by illness and worry. She felt the weight of things, and she felt, perhaps, a little unseen herself.

But then, Jesus entered. And what did He say to her? “My eyes are on you. You have a role to play.”

Friends, that phrase—“My eyes are on you”—is a lifeline for any of us who are trying to serve in the field, who are preparing for missionary discussions, or who are just trying to keep our own little corner of the gospel illuminated in our homes. It’s a divine declaration that cuts through the noise and the doubt.

We all have seasons where our personal challenges feel like the main event, and we forget that the Savior sees the whole picture—our struggles, our triumphs, and the quiet, steady work we are doing right where we are. He sees the devotion of the lifelong disciple, the dedication of the returning missionary, and the earnest spirit of the new missionary preparing in the MTC.

This isn't just about physical healing, though the testimony is powerful. It’s about spiritual realignment. It’s about remembering that even when our immediate circumstances are chaotic, the Savior’s plan for us—the plan to draw us closer to Him and to allow us to serve—remains perfectly illuminated.

If you are feeling that spiritual fatigue, that sense of being sidelined, I want to encourage you today: Don't let the feeling of invisibility convince you that Christ’s gaze is elsewhere. He is looking right at you. He sees the effort you put into your scriptures study, the times you choose to counsel a friend, or the quiet moments you spend praying for your ward.

He sees you, and He has a role for you. You are chosen to be a miracle, just as Eden was.

A Bite-Sized Skill for Today: Recognizing Divine Sight

When you feel overwhelmed by your own problems, try this little exercise before you go to sleep tonight. Take a moment and visualize the Savior looking at you. Don't focus on what you *don't* have, or what *is* going wrong. Instead, mentally list three specific, small ways you *are* currently serving—maybe it was a kind word, or helping a family member with a chore, or even just showing up to Church. Acknowledge those acts as visible evidence that the Spirit is working through you, even if you can’t see the result yet.

This practice helps anchor us to the truth that our service is never invisible to Him.
